Dear Millbrook Families:
In an effort to keep students safe on buses (includes contract vehicles) and to operate our buses as efficiently as possible, we want to make sure parents and students understand the current policy regarding school buses as outlined in the Student/Parent Handbook. Students are expected to be considerate of the safety and well-being of themselves and fellow students at bus stops and on buses. Please obey the following:
- Show respect and obey the driver at all times. Do not distract the driver while he/she is driving.
- At the bus stop, stay out of the street and be respectful of the property around the bus stop. (Arrive at the bus stop 10 minutes before the bus arrives so that the bus does not have to wait.)
- Always walk when getting on and off the bus; no pushing or crowding.
- Talk quietly without yelling or using bad language.
- Stay in assigned seat and keep body parts and objects out of the aisles and in bus at all times.
- Keep the bus clean and pick up any dropped trash.
- Do not damage the bus or tamper with equipment or emergency door.
- Keep your hands to yourself. No fighting or horseplay.
- Keep food and drinks in book bag. Do no eat or drink on the bus.
- Ride only the bus to which you are assigned. Get on/off the bus only at your assigned stop.
- Parents, please supervise students at bus stops as appropriate based on age.
- Parents, address bus issues through your school office or WCPSS Transportation Department. (Parents may not board buses or discuss issues with the drivers during the route.)
Bus seats are assigned to use the buses to capacity while maintaining a comfortable ride for students. Therefore, students may only ride their assigned bus and may only board and exit buses at their assigned stop. Parents are expected to arrange private transportation if their children need to go somewhere else other than home after school. While we recognize that this may be an inconvenience and that there has been inconsistency in applying this long-standing policy, it is in your child’s best interest that we work together for safe transportation to and from school.
Changes to a bus route or location of a bus stop should be addressed using the Transportation Service Request Form, which can be obtained from your child’s school or on the transportation website, http://www.wcpss.net/transportation/forms.html. The Transportation Department will review requests and follow-up with parents.
If your child does not follow the above expectations, disciplinary action may be taken, up to and including removal from the bus. Thank you for your support and cooperation!

What time do buses leave the Millbrook campus in the afternoon?
Buses are expected to leave the Millbrook campus within five minutes of the 2:28 dismissal bell.
2. What happens if my bus number or route is changed during the school day?
All bus changes are called into the Millbrook office for the afternoon announcements. Students should follow directions given during announcements and check with staff members on bus duty for additional questions. Also note, Millbrook buses will be located in the same spot on the bus lot regardless of the bus number each day.
3. If I am involved in after school activates is there transportation available to take me home? No.
- Can a student who is assigned to Millbrook as a transfer student catch a bus that comes to their neighborhood? No.
- How do I request a stop to be changed or added?
The criteria for establishing stops are set by the Transportation Department of theWake County Board of Education. The maximum walking distance for a high school student is 5/10 of a mile. Any parent wishing to request a stop change may complete a stop location change form and forward it to the Transportation Office. A written response will be mailed to you at your home within ten business days. Please see the Route Appeal Procedure Link on this page.

- I disagree with the guideline set forth at the WCPSS Transportation Department, what should I do?
Contact the Transportation managers by district. Dolores Kittrel is the Area Manager for Millbrook High School. She can be reached at 870-4247 or at dkittrell@wcpss.net.
- Can a student ride home on another bus?
Due to the number of students assigned to runs and capacity limits, students will not be allowed to ride the bus home with others students. Parents should make arrangements to provide transportation when needed.
- What do I do if my bus does not come in the morning?
Use district contact numbers to get the status on late buses. If there has been an interruption in service and you are left home without transportation a bus will be sent back to pick you up.
- Will buses continue to make my assigned stop if no one uses it?
Drivers are instructed to go to stops for 5 consecutive days before the stop is removed from the bus route. If a student wants to resume riding contact with the transportation office should be made prior to this date.
- Why can’t a student catch the bus at another stop that comes later?
Each student is assigned to one bus stop. For security/safety reasons, students are not permitted to board or exit at any stop besides the designated one without prior approval.
- What happens if the bus arrives on campus late in the morning?
Teachers will be notified of late buses and students are to report to class. They will not be penalized.
- What happens if a student is written-up by the bus driver?
Administrators at Millbrook High School acknowledge the bus ride as a school related activity. Therefore they enforce Millbrook High School and Wake County Board policies pertaining to discipline infractions that occur on the bus or at the bus stop as if the incident occurred on the schools campus. Additional information on discipline polices can be found in the student handbook.
