Tom R. Thalman has been involved with the MHS Business Alliance
since 2002 and was recommended to serve by Tom Oxholm, one
of the pioneers of the Alliances for Wake County Schools.
He is a financial planner with Sagemark Consulting a division
of Lincoln Financial Advisors. He enjoys all outdoor activities
especially, riding his Harley Davidson.

Dara Y. Haney is the Vice President & Institutional Trust
Consultant of BB&T Institutional Services. She earned
her BA in Business Administration from The University of North
Carolina at Charlotte and a Masters of Business Administration
from Meredith College; has 12 years of Employee Benefits and
Trust experience; joined BB&T in 1996; obtained the Certified
Retirement Services Professional (CRSP) designation from the
Institute of Certified Bankers; obtained the Certified Retirement
Plan Specialist (CRPS) from the College for Financial Planning;
she is currently pursuing the Certified Employee Benefit Specialist
(CEBS) designation; her responsibilities include in-depth
review of recordkeeping, administration and management of
client relationships. Her interest in the Alliance is primarily
to be involved in her community and help to make a difference
for a high school student.

Gary Bossert is the Director of Human Resources for Medical
Mutual, the leading provider of medical and dental professional
liability insurance in North Carolina. Gary has served on
the Alliance since 2002. As a human resource professional,
Gary understands the importance of supporting the career interests
of young people and the Alliance meets this need through job
shadow opportunities, career fairs, and other activities.
Gary has worked with Medical Mutual since 1999 and has worked
in the HR field since 1993 when he graduated with a BS in
Communications. He obtained his MBA in 1997. Though Gary and
his family live in Durham, he appreciates the role that companies
play in supporting their surrounding community. Millbrook
High School is within several miles of Medical Mutual's offices.

Trish Dean became involved with the MHS Business Alliance
last year, as a volunteer at the Career Fair. She has a two-fold
interest in the work of the Business Alliance. As the parent
of a Millbrook H.S. student, she enjoys having advance notice
of upcoming events that will benefit her daughter. As a business
person in the community, she enjoys working on the Alliance
to help prepare students to be the employees and employers
of our future.

Chris Povolny is interested in participating in the Business
Alliance, because when he was growing up he was influenced
by the adults in his life. Their influence on him when he
was a child helped him to develop into a successful person
in the business world today. He also mentors two students
at Millbrook High School.
He is a transplant from the Northeast who married a southern
belle. He has been living in Raleigh since 1994 when he graduated
from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst with a degree
in Turfgrass Management.
He currently works at Bland Landscaping Company as a Branch
Manager in the Wake Forest and North Raleigh area. Bland Landscaping
Company is a locally owned, full service landscape company
that was started in 1976. The company services commercial
and residential customers in the Triangle area. The company
specializes in: landscape design, installation of plants and
hardscapes, irrigation installation and maintenance, floriculture
designs and installation, and complete management of the landscape.

Betsy Sykes is the Business Development Director for Magnolia
Glen Senior Living in Raleigh, overseeing external marketing
and community relations. She joined the Millbrook High School
Business Alliance in January 2003. Betsy has enjoyed helping
to plan both the Career Fair and Job Shadow Day.

| Business Alliance Member: Bob Woodson, Jr.
Business: State Employees’ Credit Union
Bob Woodson became involved in the Business Alliance when
his daughter attended Millbrook H.S. several years ago (she
is now a junior at NC State University). He has been employed
with the State Employees’ Credit Union for 28 years,
including 9 years in the Human Resources Department (VP/Personnel/Payroll).
His outside interest is in severe weather. Currently he is
the assistant emergency coordinator for Central Carolina Skywarn.
His college undergraduate and graduate degrees are in Meteorology
from NC State University.
