Millbrook vs Sanderson and 9/19/09: Wolfpack Invitational

The MHS XC junior varsity boys had one of the best weeks, putting together great races Wednesday and Saturday at the Wolfpack Invitational.  Read Caulkins and Tony Miller both walked away with medals and our jv team finished 6th overall out of over 40 teams.  There is no comparison to the times of Saturday to previous times at Wolfpack.  Last year 12:09 was our top time and this year we had 6 people at or under that time.  Louis Mongomery, Josh Sywanyk, and Drew Leneschmidt all had great races.  Saturday, our girls varsity knocked off another top 10 team for 4A (the biggest schools) and two of the top 6 3A schools.  Anna Clapsaddle and Katie Gamble finished 2nd and 3rd respectively in the jv race.  Sammy George had perhaps the best race of her career, running a 18:21.  She is currently the number one ranked sophomore in the nation.  For the Varsity boys, Brady Burke and Paul Carr both had nice races and are on schedule for putting together a great team by the end of the year.  Richard Miller is currently the number 5 sophomore in the state, and he has worked hard for it.  On a disappointing note, the girls lost Wednesday to Sanderson, giving us our first lost of the season.  The girls had gone undefeated during track, so it was sad to see that streak come to an end, but hopefully we will all learn from that experience.

9/9/09: Millbrook vs. Wakefield
The luck of 9/9/09 held true for the MHS XC Wildcats as both the men and women added another victory to the win column by defeating Wakefield on a very difficult and hilly course.  The women were led by junior captains Allora Burke and Amber Buckalew followed by Bonnie Gartland, Megan Corbally, birthday girl Olivia Wedegaertner, and freshman Katie Gamble.  On the men’s,  the top 4 guys crossed the finish line together, placing 1-4, showing the team spirit and unity of the MHS XC Wildcats!
Jungle Run: 9/5/09

Millbrook XC Men and Woman's teams placed 5th and 4th respectively at the 8th annual Jungle Run in Hope Mills, NC.  This course provides a great opportunity for the runners to experience running under the lights on a fast flat surface.  For the women, Sammy George and Olivia Wedegaertner placed 1st in varsity and jv races respectively.  Sammy broke the course record in a time of 18:12 with many of the runners recording personal bests!   For the varsity men, sophomore Richard Miller led the way with a PR of 16:40 with 6 of the top 7 runners breaking 18 minutes.  Overall, a great meet for the Wildcats.

Broughton vs. MHS 9/2/09

After coming off a great win for both the men and woman's cross country teams at Millbrook's Annual Invitational, both teams continued to show strength and depth as they dominated Broughton High School in a XC duel on Sept. 2, 2009.  The spirit and enthusiasm displayed by the runners was incredible.  Both teams remain undefeated for the season.

Last week the Wildcat cross country team had a great showing at the Wolfpack Invitational.  Over 40 schools participated and Anna Clapsaddle, Tony Miller, Sammy George, Read Caulkins and Katie Gamble all earned medals.  Currently Samantha George has the fastest time of any sophomore in the nation, while Richard Miller is the number 5 sophomore in the state.  The boys are also still undefeated at 7-0, while the girls are 6-1.
