To be eligible for tryouts, practice, or participation in interscholastic
athletic contests, a player must meet all North Carolina High School
Athletic Association (NCHSAA) and Wake County Public School System
(WCPSS) eligibility requirements and policies:
- Must not participate
if he/she becomes 19 years of age on or before October 16th of
current school year.
- Must follow NCHSAA rules which have a 85% attendance
requirement (approximately 13.5 days) for the previous semester
and includes all absences.
- WCPSS requires the athlete to be present the entire
day in order to participate in activities or practices.
- Must meet promotion requirements at their school to
be eligible for the fall semester.
- Must earn passing grades in three
subjects for block schedule schools during each semester in order
to be eligible for
participation
during the succeeding semester.
- WCPSS also requires a cumulative overall grade point
average of 1.5 or above.
- Must participate
at the school to which he or she is assigned and must live with
the parents or legal guardian.
- Must be a properly enrolled student in a member school
of the WCPSS district, must be enrolled no later than the 15th
day of the present semester, and must be in regular attendance
at that school.
- Must receive a medical
examination once every 365 days by a duly licensed physician,
nurse practitioner, or physician’s
assistant.
- Must be released by a licensed physician if absent from
athletic practice for five or more days due to illness or injury.
- May not participate in practice or play if assigned
to In-School Suspension (ISS) or Out-of-school Suspension (OSS).
- May not participate at a second school in WCPSS in the
same sport season.

A quick update on Millbrook's results Saturday at the State championships. Greg Gilchrest finished 3rd in the pole vault with a vault of 15 feet and the girls 4 by 400 team of Alyssa Townsend, Jessie Malek, Roshel Bygrave and Tiffanie Downing won the state championship with a very impressive time of 3 minutes and 53 seconds. This time makes them the fastest 4 by 400 relay in the history of Raleigh . Overall the girls finished 6th as a team. |

Men's Tennis
Congratulations to the men's tennis team for winning their second round match in the NCHSAA State play-offs 7-2 vs Green Hope. They will play Broughton on Tuesday, May 19th, at Millbrook 4:00. The forth round will be at Millbrook on Thursday, May 21st, 4:00. The State finals will be on Saturday, May 23rd, at the Burlington tennis center. I will have maps available in the front office next week. Please wish these young men good luck. |

Varsity Baseball
Congratulations to the Millbrook baseball team in going 12-0 and winning the cap-7 conference. The last Millbrook baseball team to go undefeated in the conference was in 1994. The players and coaches should be commended.
The baseball team will be at home on Thursday night, May 14th, at 6:00 . We will play Athens for the first round of the NCHSAA state play-offs. Tickets will be $6.00 . Come out and support your wildcats!! |

Wednesday the girls track and field team won the CAP-7 conference championship, making it 6 championships in the last 8 years. The girls were behind early, but won 4 of the last 5 events to pull away from the competition. Roshel Bygrave won the two hurdle events and Sammy George won all three distance events. Tiffanie Downing took second in the two sprints. The boys also had a number of athletes earn all conference as well and were lead by Greg Gilchrest, who was the conference champion in the pole vault. Malik Fair also finished second in the 200 and 400. Please congratulate those athletes when you see them. |

This past weekend several Millbrook runners competed in the indoor national championships in Boston and did very well. Our sprint medley relay team of Tiffanie Downing, Roshel Bygrave, Alyssa Townsend and Samantha George finished 10th with a time of 4:11- just missing all American status (top 6) by 2 seconds. The real big new was Samantha George WON the freshman mile. Her time of 5:09 was 5 seconds better than 2nd place. |

The Lady Wildcats Varsity Softball team is off to a strong start! They
won two scrimmage games this past week against East Wake and Cary High.
Please come out and cheer on the Lady Wildcats to victory! The first JV
home game is Tuesday, March 3 at 4:00 against Knightdale. The first
varsity home game is Tuesday, March 10 at 4:30, also against Knightdale.
Be sure to congratulate the MHS softball team for their awesome effort! |

The JV Cheerleaders won the Sweetheart Classic State Championship hosted by Spirit Xpress on Sunday. We also won the Grand Champion Award (meaning we had the highest score of all JV teams competing in all divisions). The girls won a 2 trophies, a banner & team sweatshirts. It was a great day for Millbrook! |

Congratulations to Keegan Sykes (103 Lbs) and Carl Bauknight (215) , both placed third at the Mid-East Regional Tournament this past weekend. They will compete at the NCHSAA State Wrestling Tournament this weekend in Winston-Salem. The team placed tenth out of twenty five teams. |

Last Saturday the Millbrook Swim Team swam in the Eastern Regional Swim Meet at the Pullen Aquatic Center. Millbrook had 13 swimmers participate in this meet. Out of 29 teams in the east region the men's team placed 12th. Daniel Hammack qualified to swim the 100 Freestyle in the State Championship Meet on Saturday, Feb. 14 at NC State as did the 400 Free Relay team of Andrew Neri, Matt Milstead, Paul Rill and Daniel Hammack which placed 5th in the regional meet.

The wrestling team placed 3rd at the conference tournament Saturday. Keegan Sykes won his championship match at 103 pounds. Placing second: Will Burton, Cameron Waardenburg, Cooper Boyce and Carl Bauknight . Sykes, Burton, Waardenburg and Boyce were named Cap VII All-Conference. Adam Taylor placed third. Fourth place finishers included: Winston Norton, Brandon Ciereck, Jacob Farrell and Matt Aronowitz. Last night the "Wildcats dropped a 36-35 dual meet to Chatham Central, made up from 1/07. Wrestling continues on 2/13 &14 at Chapel Hill (Regionals). The top four placewinners advance to the State Wrestling Tournament in Winson-Salem the following week. |

The JV & Varsity Cheerleaders competed in the NCCCA State Cheer Challenge on Saturday at Campbell University.
JV won 1st place in the JV Division. Please congratulate them on a job well done!
Varsity placed 5th in the State 4A Large Varsity Division (always the toughest division). Only 3 points separated the top 5 teams.
Both teams represented Millbrook well.
The JV, V & Special Needs all compete this Saturday, Feb. 7th at Knightdale HS in the Wake County Championships between the times of 1:45 & 4:00PM. Please come out and support our student-athletes- you can see all 3 teams.

Winter track update
Good luck to Greg Gilchrest, Tiffanie Downing, Roshel Bygrave, Alyssa Townsend and Samantha George at the state meet Feb 14th. Greg qualified in the pole vault, while Tiffanie, Roshel and Samantha are all in two individual events. Alyssa joins the three other girls for the 4x400 relay. Millbrook is ranked top 6 in 7 of the 8 events they are competing in!

Millbrook took 3rd place team honors at The Thomas Cowles "Firebird" Duals @ Southern Nash High School on Saturday (11/17). Millbrook defeated Southern Nash, Rosewood and Nash Cental while falling to Cary and Louisburg. Jason Knight 160 Lbs. (4-0), Keegan Sykes 103 Lbs. (4-1) and Winston Norton 130 Lbs. (3-1) paced the Wildcats. Nick LaScala 140 Lbs. picked up his first varsity win by fall while Eric Dreier 130 Lbs. and Tanner Core (160/171 Lbs. saw their first varsity action of the season. The grapplers will next take the mat @ Wake Forest - Rolesville on Thursday the 22nd. |

On 1/09 the wrestling team went 1-2 @ The Millbrook Quad. Falling 34-35 in an exciting match with Chapel Hill, losing 21-49 to Douglas Byrd and defeating Granville Central 77-6. Jason Knight (160 Lbs) went 3-0, while Matt Aronowitz (189) went 2-0 on the evening.
Last night Millbrook was defeated by Leesville Road 24-54. Winners for the "Cats" included: Keegan Sykes, Will Burton, Cooper Boyce and Jason Knight . All of the wins by fall. Millbrook will resume action Saturday (1/17) at The Thomas-Cowles "Firebird" Duals @ Southern Nash High School.
The non conference dual with Chatham Central, originally scheduled on 01/07, has been rescheduled for 01/26 at Bear Creek. |

The wrestling team competed at the Eagle Invitational @ Mebane on December 19-20. The team placed 9th out of 20 teams. Place winners included: Carl Bauknight (3rd place, 215 Lbs), Jacob Farrell (4ht place, 171 Lbs), Ty Graham (4th place, 160 Lbs) and Keegan Sykes (5th place, 103 Lbs).
On December 30th Millbrook defeated Durham Jordan 39-32, at The Southern Scuffle in Greensboro. Winners included: Sykes, Zaremba, Boyce, Graham, Farrell, Aronowitz and Bauknight. The team claimed the traveling trophy in the first annual "Baker Brawl."
The new year began with the the Wildcats taking the mats at the Sonny Inskip Tournament (Northern Durham). The team earned 3rd place honors out of 13 competing teams. Place winners; Keegan Sykes, (1st place 103 Lbs), Carl Bauknight (2nd place 215 Lbs), Jason Petersen , (2nd place 285 Lbs), Cameron Waardenburg , (3rd place 135 Lbs), David Brumbaugh , (3rd place 140 Lbs) and Matt Aronowitz , (3rd place 189 Lbs).
Wrestling action resumes Wednesday (01/07) as they travel to Bear Creek to take on Chatham Central in a non conference dual. |

The wrestling team defeated Wakefield last night, 52-18. Keegan Sykes, Will Burton, Henry Zaremba, Winston Norton, Cameron Waardenburg and Cooper Boyce picked up falls for the Wildcats. Brandon Harris, Ty Graham, Jacob Farrell and Carl Baukinight all picked up wins on the evening. The wrestlers will travel to The Eagle Invitational in Goldsboro this weekend before their next Cap VII matchup vs. Sanderson (12/17).

FOOTBALL WRAP-UP - Kuwon Eldridge and Brian Kass had great seasons and set some new all-time records here at Millbrook.
Kuwon is the alltime leading rusher and scorer in Millbrook history. He is also the single season all-time leading rusher and scorer.
Brian Kass finished as the number 2 alltime leading passer and number 3 alltime leading scorer.
