From the Principal’s Desk : June - 2006

In the last two weeks I attended the last PTSA meeting of the year, our Spring Fling Arts Festival, Teacher of the Year banquet for Mr. Sam Holleman, toured Reynolds Coliseum for graduation details with Millbrook teachers Lorraine Davenport, Dianne Thompson, Joy Crosby, Vickie Christos, Wendy Davis, Kathy Stefanou and Senior Class President Sacha Feinman.  I attended Prom, track regionals, the MHS Band banquet and the Wildcat Academy Open House.  This flurry of activities can only signal one thing – the end of school is near.  There is a lot to get done before we let out for the year including but not limited to final exams and graduation.  Looking forward to this summer you may again have difficulty finding the main office.  On June 9 we must relocate from the media center (which I won’t miss) to the 200 Building while construction work is being done in the media center.  You may remember that we are open during the summer months, though we may be difficult to find, our phone numbers should remain the same!  Our ‘Cats Camp dates (for rising ninth graders) will be August 9 and 10, and we have our walk-thru for all students wanting to learn their new classes August 24 from 4 – 6 PM.  You’ll want to see our new facility before the first day of school August 25.

We are adding new programs and new staff to go with our new facility next year.  If you are a parent of a senior, those last six sentences are irrelevant to you.  Instead, as parents you are about to face big changes in your home.  The son or daughter you have protected, encouraged, woken up, nagged and praised during their elementary and secondary school years no longer needs this kind of support.  Celebrate not only their academic accomplishment, but your successful parenting as well.  When my first child graduated from Millbrook High School I told myself that I would celebrate and be happy.  I was surprised to feel a bit sad and anxious.

Seniors, I commend you on a job well done.  I hope that when you see the colors of blue and white, when you hear the fight song, or you experience a fire drill, that you will be reminded of your days at Millbrook High School and you smile.  Maybe I’ll see you on Facebook.

“I don’t know where this road is going to lead.
All I know is where we’ve been and
what we’ve been through.
If we get to see tomorrow
I hope it’s worth all the wait
It’s so hard to say goodbye to yesterday.”
